The company
Olby is a talent network that connects Brazilian professionals with international companies. Initially launched as an agency, Olby assisted both international and Brazilian clients in creating digital products while simultaneously teaching developers through its academy. By the end of 2021, Olby identified an opportunity to become a product-led company and enhance their services by facilitating direct connections between clients and talent, providing ongoing support to both parties throughout their collaboration.
My role
As the first designer to join the founding team, I played a crucial role in defining the strategy and scope for the initial product release. Over the course of a year, I was responsible for developing the design language and design system for three products, as well as crafting all the key product flows. I also onboarded four additional designers, leading the design team by guiding and overseeing all phases of the work, from discovery through to delivery and launch.
Challenges
In addition to creating the first version of the platform designs, we anticipated a future rebranding with a tight deadline. To prepare, we focused on establishing solid design foundations that could be consistently applied across all our work. I led the design system initiative, collaborating closely with the development leadership to ensure a seamless transition when the rebranding occurred.

Results
Leveraging our extensive experience from client work, we applied key learnings to our internal project. With a highly motivated team, we delivered impressive results in a short timeframe. Within three months, we designed and developed all key project flows and established an initial design system that supported both light and dark modes. We successfully launched our MVP and set up a continuous discovery process, incorporating user interviews and analytics to inform future iterations.
When the time came to rebrand the company and product a few months later, the robust design system we had put in place made the process remarkably efficient. Updating the branding across all screens required only a few hours of design work, and the development team completed the necessary changes in just a few days. This experience highlighted the significant return on investment in the design system.
